DeSoto State Park near Fort Payne and
Mentone boasts more than one dozen
waterfalls ranging in size from small
cascades to the 100-foot high DeSoto Falls.
Some of the falls are seasonal and are best
seen in winter, while others flow year round.

spots at Little River Canyon National
Preserve. The magnificent waterfall is
formed by a 40-foot drop of the Little River,
one of the few rivers in the nation that flows
almost entirely on the top of a mountain.

Noccalula Falls - Gadsden, Alabama
This spectacular 90-foot waterfall plunges
from Lookout Mountain into a beautiful
ravine. The falls are named for Noccalula, a
young Cherokee woman who supposedly
jumped to her death here in a tragic Romeo
and Juliet like story.

Peavine Falls - Oak Mountain State Park
Part of a 60-foot cascade, this waterfall is
located in Oak Mountain State Park in
Pelham. It is one of the closest falls to
Birmingham and is a Shelby County
landmark. The falls can be reached from
several trails in the park.
