Alabama's oldest state parks is also one of its most spectacular. Cheaha Resort State Park is located atop Mt. Cheaha, the highest point in the state. Originally
created by the Civilian Conservation Corps or CCC during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the park is a historic site in its own right. It also was a major landmark
for the Creek or Muscogee Nation and the name means, literally, "high place" in the Muscogee language. Convenient to Talladega, Anniston, Birmingham and other
cities of the area, the park offers trails, spectacular views, cabins, chalets and a hotel, as well as facilities for picnicking and camping.
