Georgia, Alabama and Florida
From its source high in the North Georgia
mountains to its end at Lake Seminole on
the Florida border, the Chattahoochee River
is one of the South's most significant and
historic waterways.
Long before the Mississippi River gained its
place as America's "Father of Waters," the
Chattahoochee was the focus of a contest of
empires. Spanish, English, Native American
and, to some degree, French forces battled
for control of the Chattahoochee River valley
in conflicts that began in 1674 and continued
for more than 150 years.
