Birthplace of the King of Rock and Roll
Elvis Presley Birthplace
Elvis Presley, the "King of Rock and Roll," was born
in this frame home in Tupelo, Mississippi.
On a beautifully landscaped site in historic Tupelo, Mississippi,
stands the birthplace of Elvis Presley. From his humble roots,
Presley became a cultural icon who influenced the lives of millions
of people around the world.

The Elvis Presley Birthplace offers a uniquely human perspective on
the life of the man who changed American music and inspired
generations of performers and artists. In addition to a museum,
memorial and other interpretive displays, the park includes the
preserved home where Presley was born on January 8, 1935.

The white-frame home was built by Elvis Presley's father, Vernon
Presley, for $180. It offers a unique look into Presley's early life and a
stark comparison to his successful years when he was surrounded
by mansions, jet airplanes and hotel suites. Elvis grew up here in
Tupelo. This was the city where he learned to play guitar and first
performed, and also the place where his country and gospel roots
were formed.

The house is today the centerpiece of a beautiful memorial park that
includes a museum, memorial chapel, displays and a statue of
Elvis during his boyhood. Only about 90 miles down U.S. 78 from
Memphis and Graceland, the Elvis Presley Birthplace seems one
million miles removed from the gold records and extravagant
furnishings of his later home.

The museum is located at 306 Elvis Presley Drive off U.S. 78 in
Tupelo. To reach the complex from the Natchez Trace Parkway, exit
onto U.S. 78 east and follow the signs. Tupelo is also the home of
numerous other sites associated with Elvis' life. Additional
information is available at the museum.
