National Civil War Naval Museum - Columbus
Reminder of a War
A cannon from the C.S.S.
Jackson stands guard over the
Chattahoochee River. The gun is
still fired on special occasions.
Walk into Living History
Visitors to the museum can
climb aboard a reproduction of
the C.S.S. Albemarle and
experience the sights and
sounds of a Civil War naval battle
in the Battle Theater.
The wreck of the C.S.S. Jackson is one of
two Confederate warships visitors can see
at the National Civil War Naval Museum.
The Port Columbus National Civil War
Museum is, quite simply, one of the
premier attractions of its type not just
in the South, but in the entire world.

The museum houses the remains of
two Civil War vessels - the C.S.S.
Jackson and C.S.S. Chattahoochee -
as well as a massive collection of
artifacts including uniforms, flags,
weapons and much more.

In addition, visitors can step aboard
reproductions of both the U.S.S.
Hartford (of "Damn the Torpedoes,
Full Speed Ahead!" fame) and the
C.S.S. Albemarle to experience what
life was really like aboard a Civil War
warship.

The museum's Battle Theater offers
the sights and sounds of being in an
actual naval battle and, on special
occasions, museum personnel
shake the ground for miles around by
firing the massive cannon that
overlooks the Chattahoochee outside
the museum.
The National Civil War Naval Museum is
located just off Victory Drive in Columbus
adjacent to the city's famed Riverwalk at
South Commons.

The museum is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., 364
days a year (closed Christmas Day).

Admission is $4.50 for adults, $3.50 for
seniors and military, and $3 for students.
